Fragment #13

Girl: Paul, what you're doing now?

Boy: I'm watching TV now. I'm watching Indonesian soap opera.

Girl: Wow... Really? Can you understand the story? Can you understand Indonesian?

Boy: I understand some of the words so I can quite predict what happens there.

Girl: What is the title?

Boy: Hmm... Bakso... Bakso Cinta.

Girl: (bursting in laugh) Are you kidding me?

Boy: No, I love watching these soap operas these days.

Girl: Well actually, it's not a soap opera. It's a kind of movie. Television movie.

Boy: But why the title is Bakso Cinta?

Girl: You know Bakso? Bakso is meatball. And cinta means love.

Boy: Yes, I know that. But why it has a funny title like that?

Girl: Well... it's like a trend in Indonesian television movies to have very catchy titles like that. The show is actually like a romantic comedy in general. They have simple stories, about a girl and a boy. And mostly, these movies have happy ending. And in the case of Bakso Cinta, it is actually quite predictable. The story can either be about a girl falling in love to a meatball seller, a boy falling in love to a meatball seller's daughter, or a boy and a girl falling in love to each other while they're eating meatball... So, it's just as simple as that.

Boy: Ya ya ya, I got it. Hmm... interesting...

Girl: You enjoy the movie?

Boy: Very much.

Girl: You want your love story to be as simple as that of the romcom story?

Boy: Well, no. I know that love story in real life will not be as simple as that. But it's quite entertaining to watch this kind of movie. I feel refreshed. I feel relaxed. You don't need to think too much while watching it, right?

Girl: Okay, enjoy watching the movie, Paul.

Boy: I hope one day we can watch this kind of movie together and talk about how love story in real life is like.
